Overview
Join us for a day trip to Landmannalaugar, one of the most beautiful places in Iceland. It’s known for its colorful mountains, black lava fields, and warm hot springs. The area was shaped by volcanoes long ago, and you’ll see shiny black rocks called obsidian and bright hills made from a special rock called rhyolite. One of the most colorful mountains is called Brennisteinsalda, also known as “the Sulphur Wave.”
We’ll spend a little over three hours in Landmannalaugar. You can join a guided hike that takes about two hours through the lava fields and up to the colorful mountain. Or, if you like, you can explore on your own or relax in the natural hot pool. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit and towel if you want to enjoy the warm water. It’s a great way to see the wild beauty of Iceland!

Itinerary
Pick-Up in Reykjavík
- Duration: ~30 minutes
Your day begins with pick-up from your selected bus stop in Reykjavík between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. Once everyone is on board, we head out of the city and into the wild nature of Iceland.
Hjálparfoss Waterfall
- Duration: ~30 minutes
Our first stop is Hjálparfoss, a lovely double waterfall surrounded by black basalt rocks. Long ago, travelers crossing the rough highlands would find rest here, and the area became known as a place of "help." It’s a quiet and scenic spot, perfect for a short walk and photos.
Landmannalaugar Hike & Hot Spring
- Duration: ~3 hours
We then arrive at Landmannalaugar, famous for its colorful mountains and hot springs. You can join a two-hour guided hike through lava fields and up to the colorful mountain Brennisteinsalda. The area looks almost magical, with steaming springs and bright hills. After the hike, there’s time to relax in the warm natural pool — don’t forget your swimsuit and towel!
Sigöldugljúfur – Valley of Tears
- Duration: ~30–45 minutes
Before heading back, we stop at Sigöldugljúfur, a hidden canyon filled with small waterfalls and clear water. It’s a peaceful place with green moss and rocky cliffs — often called the “Valley of Tears” because of the many little falls. A great spot to enjoy nature and take photos.

Yes, absolutely. If hiking isn’t for you, you’re welcome to explore the area on your own or relax in the natural hot spring for a longer time.
What if the weather is bad?
The itinerary may be adjusted depending on weather and road conditions. Safety is our top priority. If the weather is too severe, the tour may be rescheduled or canceled, and you will be notified in advance.
What is the minimum age to join the tour?
The minimum age to join this tour is 10 years old. Due to the hike and remote locations, it may not be suitable for younger children.
Where and when is the pick-up?
Pick-up is in Reykjavík between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. You’ll be picked up from a designated bus stop near your accommodation. Make sure to be ready at your chosen location on time.
How many people are on the tour?
This is a small group tour with a maximum of 19 passengers. Traveling with a smaller group ensures a more personal and enjoyable experience.
