Join us for an exciting glacier hike on Sólheimajökull, one of Iceland’s most accessible and stunning glaciers. Located near powerful volcanoes and dramatic landscapes, this icy giant is part of the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier. You’ll meet your guide right at the glacier, where all safety gear like crampons, helmets, and ice axes will be provided.

Itinerary
Meet at Sólheimajökull Glacier Parking Lot
- Time: 15–20 minutes
Meet your guide at the Sólheimajökull glacier parking area at the scheduled time. Here, you’ll be introduced to the group, receive your glacier gear (crampons, helmet, and ice axe), and go through a short safety overview before starting the adventure.
Walk to the Glacier
- Time: 30 minutes
Take a guided walk from the parking lot to the glacier. Enjoy the views of the mountains, lava fields, and the glacier ahead.
Get Ready at the Glacier Edge
- Time: 15 minutes
At the edge of the glacier, your guide will show you how to put on your crampons and walk safely on the ice. A quick final check will be done before heading onto the glacier.
Glacier Hike
- Time: 1 hour
Now the real adventure begins! Walk across the glacier, explore its ice formations, and learn fun facts from your guide. You'll see cracks, ice ridges, and maybe even some deep blue ice.
Walk Back to the Parking Lot
- Time: 30 minutes
After the glacier hike, enjoy a peaceful walk back to the parking area and take in the last views of this amazing place.

What is the minimum age for this tour?
Participants must be at least 10 years old. Children should be comfortable walking for a couple of hours and able to follow instructions.
What happens in bad weather?
Icelandic weather can change quickly. The tour operates year-round, but in cases of extreme conditions, the tour may be delayed or canceled for safety. You’ll be informed in advance and offered options if that happens.
