Itinerary
1. Pick-up in Reykjavik · Duration: 1 hour
Our comfortable van will pick you up from Reykjavik. During the drive to Thingvellir National Park, your guide will share fascinating insights into Iceland's geology and the unique formation of the Silfra fissure, set in a UNESCO World Heritage site. Those traveling on their own should meet us directly at Silfra in the national park.
2. Arrival and Gear Preparation · Duration: 30 minutes
Upon reaching Silfra, you'll be introduced to your guide, who will provide you with a dry suit and snorkeling gear. Detailed instructions will be given to ensure you're warm and comfortable throughout your adventure. You’ll get an overview of the route and what to expect during the snorkeling experience.
3. Snorkeling Adventure · Duration: 30 to 40 minutes
Dive into the crystal-clear waters of Silfra and explore its four main sections:
- Big Crack: Glide through the narrowest part of Silfra where the tectonic plates almost touch.
- Silfra Hall: Experience the vivid colors and exceptional clarity as you swim further.
- Silfra Cathedral: As the depth increases to 23 meters, you'll feel like you're floating above the boulders and glacial silt.
- Silfra Lagoon: End your snorkeling in this area known for its endless visibility.
4. Post-Snorkeling Treats · Duration: 20 minutes
After your underwater journey, warm up with hot chocolate and cookies while reflecting on the amazing sights you just witnessed. This is a perfect moment to chat with your guide and fellow snorkelers about the experience.
5. Return to Reykjavik · Duration: 1 hour
If you opt for the pick-up service, we’ll drive you back to Reykjavik, giving you more time to absorb the memories of your unique adventure between two continents. For those meeting us at Silfra, this concludes your tour.
Important Information
- Bring long underwear, thick socks, and weather-appropriate clothing.
- If you wear glasses, bring contact lenses as masks won’t fit over glasses.
- Read and sign the online Snorkeling Silfra Medical Statement before joining.
- If you are 60 or older, have the Snorkeling Medical form signed by a doctor.
- You must sign a liability release form at the start of the tour.
- Participants should be between 150 cm and 200 cm tall and weigh 45 kg and 120 kg.
- Ensure you fit within our dry suit size chart.
- Minimum age is 12 years and minimum weight is 45 kg (99 lbs).

Know before you go
- The total tour duration is around 5 hours, including travel from Reykjavik and 2.5 hours at Silfra.
- Groups are limited to 6 snorkelers per guide for a more personalized experience.
- A minimum of 3 snorkelers is required to proceed with the tour; we will refund you if this number is not met.
- For transport, our bus needs at least 3 passengers. If fewer, we will issue a full refund.
- You need to be comfortable in water and able to swim.
- Be prepared to wear a tight, sometimes restrictive dry suit.
- You must be able to understand and speak English.
- Pregnant participants cannot join the tour.
- Eat a good meal before starting the tour to keep your energy levels up.

Do I need to be an experienced snorkeler to join the tour?
No prior snorkeling experience is necessary. Our guides will provide comprehensive instructions and ensure you are comfortable with the equipment. However, you should feel at ease in water and be able to swim.
What equipment is provided for the snorkeling tour?
We supply all necessary snorkeling gear, including a dry suit, mask, snorkel, and fins. The dry suit helps keep you warm in the cold glacial waters and prevents most of your body from getting wet.
Is the water in Silfra cold?
Yes, the water in Silfra is quite cold, usually around 2-4°C (36-39°F) year-round. The dry suit provided will keep you warm by insulating you from the cold water, but it’s important to wear warm clothing underneath.
Can I bring my own snorkeling equipment?
You are welcome to bring your own mask, snorkel, and fins. However, we recommend using our dry suits and other provided gear to ensure you stay warm and comfortable in Silfra’s cold waters.
How long will I spend in the water during the tour?
The snorkeling portion of the tour lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. During this time, you will explore the different sections of Silfra, each offering unique and breathtaking underwater views.
What should I wear for the snorkeling tour?
We recommend wearing long underwear and thick socks under the dry suit. Dress in layers appropriate for the weather, as you will be outside for part of the tour. Bring an extra set of warm clothing for after the tour.
