Itinerary
Meeting at Skaftafell Base · Duration: 20 minutes before departure
Your journey begins at Troll Expeditions Skaftafell, just a short distance from the glacier. This warm and welcoming base offers free parking, so you can skip the fees at the main visitor centre. Here, you’ll meet your experienced glacier guide and receive all your essential safety gear, including a helmet, harness, crampons, and an ice axe.
Getting Ready for the Glacier · Duration: 20 minutes walk to the glacier
Once you’re geared up, the group will take a scenic walk toward the edge of Falljökull. As you approach, your guide will share stories about the glacier’s retreat and point out striking features like meltwater lagoons and old ice lines on the surrounding rocks. A short safety briefing will follow, ensuring you feel confident using your equipment on the ice.
Glacier Hike & Ice Cave Adventure · Duration: Approximately 3 hours
The heart of the tour begins on the glacier itself. Your guide will lead you across breathtaking ice formations, including deep crevasses and vertical moulins. Along the way, you’ll learn how these natural features are shaped over time. The highlight is entering a stunning blue ice cave, where shimmering walls of crystal-clear ice create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Warming Up After the Tour · Duration: 15 minutes
